LOCAL NEWS — Around on noon on Monday, Moore County Sheriff’s Department and THP responded to a possible bomb threat near Elm Street and High Street – just several blocks from historic downtown Lynchburg.

Based on the yet unconfirmed threat, law enforcement closed Elm Street and evacuated homes near the area as a precaution while waiting on the THP Special Operations Division to also respond. Once all teams were onsite, they worked to clear each building using bomb-sniffing canine units. Law enforcement found nothing suspicious and re-opened the area about three hours later, according to Mayor Bonnie Lewis.

The incident is still under investigation by the Metro Moore County Sheriff’s Department. •
