LOCAL NEWS — Uniforms, scoreboards, facilities … it takes a lot to run a high school athletics program. On Tuesday, Jack Daniel’s Distillery made a $36,400 donation to the Moore County High School’s Athletic Department. The monies will support the football, baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball, wrestling, and cheerleading programs for both the middle school and the high school. A donation for the Moore County High School band will come at a later date, according to Hale.

The monies will be used to fund new cleats for the football team, uniforms and apparel for both the varsity boys and girls basketball teams, new fencing and practice gear for the baseball and softball teams, uniforms and equipment for the girls volleyball team, and new uniforms for the wrestling team.

The donation will also be used for run through signs and team apparel for the varsity cheerleading squad and a stunt safety clinic for the middle school cheerleaders.

For the middle school athletes, the donation will be used for football practice apparel and helmets, boys basketball travel gear and equipment as well as girls basketball shoes and travel gear. The middle school baseball and softball programs will get new uniforms this year as well as practice equipment and field equipment.

The lump sum donation will also fund an indoor simulator for the golf team, team apparel for the cross country team, and warmups, team apparel, and uniforms for the tennis teams. •
