LOCAL NEWS — Exciting news for to local 4-H students. The Moore County 4-H Cooking Team – otherwise known as Emilee Moorehead and Jack Hart – recently earned the right to participate as one of two teams to represent Tennessee 4-H at the National 4-H Food Challenge in Dallas, Texas on September 28 during the Texas State Fair.

The local team will compete using a charcoal grill and local supporters will host a Charcoal Chunking Contest this Friday during the Raiders home game against Fayetteville City. The contest will raise money for the two students and their trip.

Each participant will attempt to throw a piece of charcoal as far as possible in an area behind the scoreboard marked off for the event for a prize and bragging rights. Organizers will provide the charcoal and gloves for each contestant. The farther of three attempts will be counted and winners will be assigned in three age categories: Prince and Princess (for ages 12 and under), Teen Queen and King (for 13-19 year olds), and King and Queen (for adults 20 and up). The cost for three attempts will be $5 for younger contestants and $10 for adults.

Monies raised will go toward travel expenses for the three adults and two students traveling for the trip such as gas and hotel costs as well as competition supplies. The two students, their parents, and 4-H sponsor Brenda Hannah will be making the trip.

Any individual who would like to sponsor the students with a monetary donation may also do so by contacting Hannah at 931-212-5267 or [email protected]. •
