LYNCHBURG — The Moore County Raiderettes took care of business on Tuesday and defeated Eagleville 48-29 in their first District 9A Tournament game. Prior to the tip off, the home crowd watched Huntland defeat the Fayetteville Lady Tigers, 56-44. This means that the two district rivals will be headed for a rematch in the District 9A Championship game on Thursday.

For the Raiderettes and Lady Eagles, Tuesday’s game was the third match up of the season. The Raiderettes grounded the Eagleville on their two previous meetings. On January 18, Moore County handed the Lady Eagles a seven-point, 59-52, loss in Eagleville. Then on February 4, the Raiderettes downed Eagleville 58-47 in Lynchburg.

Tuesday night’s game was more of the same. The Raiderettes led for nearly the entirety with the exception of the first period when Eagleville managed six unanswered points to pull ahead 10-9 with less than a minute to play in the quarter. Freshman Ellie Graham, determined to end the period with the lead, scored with seven seconds left to lift the Raiderettes ahead 11-10 at the end of the first.

Moore County led the rest of the way putting up nine to Eagleville’s five points in the second period to go into the locker room leading by five. After the break the Raiderettes outscored the Lady Eagles in the third period by five to go into the final stanza leading 31-21. Moore County saved their big scoring period for the fourth — putting up 17 points while holding the Lady Eagles to just nine. At the final buzzer, Moore County earned a ticket into the championship game with 48-29 win.

Two seniors led the way for Moore County. Chloe Brazier led with 17 points followed by Olivia Richards with 12. Katy Fletcher scored eight including the Raiderettes only trey of the game. Ellie Graham added seven more. Charlotte Ray and Maecy Fletcher contributed a basket each. Isabella Sawyer led for Eagleville with eight points.
