Heavy Smoke BBQ takes home The Jack in 2022

LYNCHBURG, Tenn. — Smoke filled the Holler this year as 64 U.S. teams and 23 international teams returned to Wiseman Park on Saturday to compete in the the thirty-third annual Jack Daniel’s World Invitational Championship Barbecue less formally known as The Jack.

Around 5 p.m. teams, judges, and bleachers full of others gathered under the big tent in Wiseman Park for the announcement of the winners. And the 2022 Grand Champion is (drum roll) …. Heavy Smoke BBQ from O’Fallon. Missouri with a total score of 703.4056. The Reserve Grand Champion was Good Google Goo BBQ from Mitchellville, Maryland with a score of 702.3428. That’s right the champion and reserve champion were separated by just 1.0628 points.

Last Call Heroes BBQ from Pierre, South Dakota was the Pork Ribs Grand Champion and Bleacher Bums from Akron, Indiana was the Reserve Grand Champion.

RJ’s Smokehouse from Vancouver, Washington was the Pork Category Grand Champion and Big Poppa Smokers from

Slaps BBQ Kansas City, Kansas was the Brisket Category Grand Champion and D’Qued Barbeque from Lost Creek, West Virginia was the Reserve Grand Champion.

Pirates of BBQ Bay from Olathe, Kansas won the Dessert Category and Rusty’s BBQ took Reserve Grand Champion.

Phoenix BBQ from Stillwater, Minnesota was the Sauce Category Grand Champion and Smokin’ It All from Denmark took Reserve Grand Champion. •
