LYNCHBURG, Tenn. — It’s a tasty treat from an award-winning local BBQ team and it’s all for a good cause.
The Barking Pig BBQ Team, led by local veterinarian Dr. Bryant Morton, plans their annual Boston Butt Fundraiser to benefit Lynchburg Friends of Animals on Sunday, February 5. They’ll join forces with the folks at the Flat Creek Volunteer Fire Department to smoke dozens of Boston Butts to raise money for the Friends of Animals Rescue & Adoption Center located here in Lynchburg. The cost is $45 per Boston Butt. The deadline to order will be Tuesday, January 31.
Dr. Morton and his Barking Pig BBQ team are a Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) team who recently competed and placed at the Food Network World Food Championships in Dallas this past fall. Their Top 10 finish earned them a automatic spot in this year’s event and they’ve already signed up to compete again. The Friends of Animals Rescue and Adoption Center provides not only a safe space for unwanted, abandoned, or stray dogs and cats but also acts as the defacto Animal Control department in Moore County. They are 100 percent funded by corporate and individual donations and fundraiser like this one.
Orders can be placed until they sell out only by calling the Lynchburg Vet Hospital at 931-759-5550 or by calling or texting Friends of Animals Director Brandi Blankenship at 931-434-7508. Pick up will take place on Sunday, February 5 at the Lynchburg Vet Hospital located at 96 Majors Boulevard in Lynchburg from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
One hundred percent of the proceed from the fundraiser will be used to pay for the care of both dogs and cats sheltered at the Friends of Animals, which is a 501(c)3 non-profit.
