LOCAL NEWS — The Metro Council will meet on Monday, December 20 at 6:30 p.m. for their regular December meeting. There will be two public hearing prior to the regular meeting.

At 6:10 p.m., there will be a public meeting to hear comments for or against the rezoning of a little over 290 acres belonging to Brown-Forman located just off Highway 55 across from Jack Daniel’s main campus (Tax Map 025, Parcel 019.00) from agricultural to commercial. The Council will vote on the second and possibly third reading of that rezoning request in the regular meeting in old business.

At 6:15 p.m. there will be a public hearing to hear comments for or against adding Residential – Medium to High Density (R-3A) to the Metro Codes. This will be the fifth time a variation of the new zoning category has appeared before the Metro Council since August. The Council will vote on the second and possibly third reading of that rezoning request in the regular meeting in old business.

In new business, the Council will hear a request for Director of School Chad Moorehead to enter into a copier contract for the Moore County Schools System. He will also ask permission to transfer funds from the general purpose school fund to the federal projects fund for fiscal year ending June 30, 2022 – a move described in the December 6 Metro School Board meeting as “housekeeping.”

The Council will also consider permission for the May 2022 Whiskey Odyssey Bike Tour to ride through and make stops in Moore County. The bicycle tour visits Tennessee distilleries. There is no drinking on the course. They begin in Williamson County and visit Nearest Green, George Dickel, and Jack Daniel’s distilleries before returning. They will be in the county between noon and 4 p.m. on May 21. They are asking permission for around 300 bicyclists to pass through portions of Moore County that day including Lynchburg. They are not requesting any road closures. The group will work with local law enforcement on a traffic control plan and then hire off duty officers to execute that plan. •
