Metro School Board meets tonight at 6 p.m.

LOCAL NEWS — The Metro School Board will meet tonight at 6 p.m. at the Moore County High School Library. The August 23 meeting will be the regular session September meeting. Director of School Chad Moorehead moved up that meeting, which typically takes place on the second Monday of the month, due to a scheduling conflict and looming federal grant application deadline in September. Members will consider the the plan to spend the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER) dollars tonight.

All meetings are open to the general public. Due to rising COVID cases in Moore County, interested member of the public may view the meeting remotely by sending an email to Director Moorehead at [email protected] requesting login information prior to 3 p.m. today.

In new business, the Board will consider proposals for improvements at both Jim Burton Field and Doug Price Field at the high school. Improvements at the baseball field include adding a batter’s eye to centerfield, central air, as well as tar and chipping the are near the bleachers. The football program would like to add a storage building on the visitor’s side bleachers.

The Board will also be asked to approve the five members of this school year’s Student Disciplinary Hearing Authority to include Wendy Hart, Danny Mooney, Jacqueline Cates, Monica Hardin, and Penny Smith. They will also discuss a Right of Way Easement for Duck River.

In the Director’s report, Director Moorehead will give a softball field upgrade update, a report of student enrollment for the 2021-22 school year, and report on custodial supplies.
