LOCAL NEWS — Friday morning a large portion of Moore County woke up to discover they were under a drinking water warning. Metro Utilities Department warned that some customers should boil their water before drinking. For others, water remained out.

On Thursday, Metro Utilities Department workers discovered a significant water leak somewhere between Flippo Road and the Hurdlow area. It took them hours to locate the leak and it – as well as a failure at the Coy Hill pump station – caused a loss of water pressure in the Griffin Water Tank Pressure Zone. In abundance of caution, MUD issued the drinking water notice Friday morning because a loss of system pressure can allow disease-causing organisms into the water system.

Folk in the following areas/roads should boil their water until further notice: Cobb Hollow, Jacey, Markey, Hurricane Creek, Pleasant Hill, Flippo, Chestnut Ridge, Ridgeville, Shasteen Hollow, Stuart Hollow, Ray Burton, Campbell, Tanyard Hill, Norman Wiseman, Damron, Coffee Creek, Majors Cemetery, Bull Run, Lois Ridge, Grammer Hill, Spencer Ridge, Preston Ridge, Louse Creek, Gooosebranch, Dry Prong, Wet Prong, Edde Bend, Sullenger Bend, Incline, Simmons, Oak Grove, Pierce Hollow, Champ, Bear Branch, Rising Moon, Bill Edde, Eslick Hollow, Malone and Snow Cemetery.

MUD officials will work all day on Friday to repair the issues. It will require refilling the tank and pressurizing water lines. After pressure is restored, they’ll need to run test to make sure the water is safe. They hope to have everything restored by the end of the day but it could take up to 48 hours. •
