GILES COUNTY, Tenn. — The Moore County Raider Baseball team is looking to make another state tournament run this year and that road will go through Richland High School on Monday night. The two Raider teams will face off in a Regional Semifinal game on Monday, May 16 at 6 p.m.

The two Raider squads have not matched up since the 2017 season. That year, they played at the Viking Classic Tournament in Unionville and Richland edged Moore County by one run in that game.

Last year, the Giles County Raiders made a state championship run but fell short. Richland beat Jo Byrns in the Region 5A Semifinal and then lost to East Robertson in the Region 5A championship game.

Of course, the Moore County Raiders finished as last season’s runner up. They lost to East Robertson 5-1 in the State Championship game. East Robertson beat Jo Byrns in a 10-2 blowout victory on Wednesday to snag the District 8 title and a second straight Region 5 Tournament berth.

Richland beat Culleoka 16-15 on Wednesday to cinch the District 10 title. In that game, the Raiders and the Warriors were knotted at 15-15 in extra innings when Richland’s Mathias Lugert bunted and reached base on an error by the Warrior first baseman. In the confusion, Jase Derryberry scored giving Richland the one run win and the title.

On Wednesday, Moore County fell to Eagleville in the District 9 Championship game. Moore County pitchers gave up 14 hits and 11 RBIs while Raider bats stayed ice cold. Richland Pitcher Jeffcoat threw 76 pitches and 44 strikes. He sat down seven Moore County batters. Moore County managed just two hits in the game.

Area Coaches named four Moore County Raider players to the All District team including Keller Morey (P, CF), Jacob Baker (P, LF), Will Harder (SS, P), and Peyton Martin (1B).

The Moore County Raiders versus Richland Raiders game will takes place at Richland High School in Giles County on Monday, May 16 at 6 p.m. For those who plan to go, the school’s GPS address is 10610 Columbia Highway in Lynnville. You can also follow the action in the GameChanger app. •
