Moore Historical Society meets June 13

LOCAL NEWS — Need help identifying folks in a Moore County or Lynchburg historical photo? Then bring it to the next meeting of the Moore County Historical Society. They will hold their monthly meeting on Sunday, June 13 at the Lynchburg Masonic Lodge at 2 p.m. The speaker will be John Parkes who runs the Moore County Historical Society’s Facebook group page, where he vets, scans, and posts historic photos for future generations. The page serves as a digital historic record for Lynchburg and Moore County. There are hundreds of historic photographs and documents posed there. Parkes spends countless hours identifying individuals in submitted photos for future genealogical and historical research purposes.

Parkes grew up in Fayetteville but shares deep roots in the Moore County area. He works as a civil engineer at Teledyne Brown Engineering in Huntsville and lives in Madison.

The Moore County Historical Society exists as a recognized 501(c) 3 non-profit organization. Membership is open to anyone interested in Moore County and Lynchburg history and cost $20 per year for an individual and $30 a year for a family. All proceeds help maintain the the Old Jail Museum and fund the publication and mailing of their bi-annual review booklet.
