FAYETTEVILLE, Tenn. — It’s rare when a starting pitcher takes the mounds and doggedly pitches an entire game without allowing a single run but that’s exactly what Moore County High School junior Paisley Logan accomplished on Thursday in a district match up against Fayetteville. In a game called early based on the high school Mercy Rule, Logan pitched all five innings throwing 63 pitches and 41 strikes. In addition to her solid pitching, Logan came to the plate and got three hits including an RBI.

The Raiderettes got up on the Lady Tigers by three runs in the first inning and never looked back. Paisley Logan got the first hit with a fly ball to the Lady Tiger centerfielder. Emily Moorehead followed with a bunt that earned her first base thanks to an error by the third baseman. Anysten Metcalf then hit a fly ball on the next at bat and also reached base on an error. This time by the second baseman. This set up a bases loaded situation for next up, Kendall Dangerfield.

In this situation, most coaches would look for a batter to swing for the fences. Instead, Dangerfield cleverly bunted and also reached first base on a Lady Tiger error – scoring Paisley Logan for the first points of the game. The Raiderettes flied out on the next at bat, then Madelynn McLaughlin singled on a fly ball to the right fielder allowing both Anysten Metcalf and Dangerfield to score.

Enter Paisley Logan and the Raiderette defense. The Lady Tigers lined out to Anysten Metcalf on their first at bat and took the third strike swinging on the second. Fayetteville managed a single on their next at bat but the following batter ground out to shortstop Kendall Dangerfield to get Moore County out of the inning.

Neither team scored in the second inning, then Moore County put up two more runs in the third. Anysten Metcalf doubled on the first at bat, then Kendall Dangerfield doubled – scoring Metcalf. Two at bats later, Madelynn McLaughlin singled and scored Dangerfield. The Lady Tigers did not score in the inning.

Moore County added two more runs in the fourth off an Anysten Metcalf homerun. Then the Lady Tigers went three up and three down. The Raiderettes saved their big inning for the fifth with hits by McLaughlin, Chloe Brazier, Logan, and Metcalf putting up four more points. Umpires called the game in the fifth inning by the Mercy Rule after Moore County scored its eleventh point.

Three Raiderettes led at the plate. Paisley Logan, Anysten Metcalf, and Madelynn McLaughlin also managed three hits each. Kendall Dangerfield added two more and Emilee Moorehead and Chloe Brazier got a hit each. Metcalf’s homerun earned her four RBIs.

The win improved the Raiderettes record to 6-3. They will travel to Cornersville next Tuesday for a district game. •
