Raider Jacob Baker pitches a shut out against Fayetteville

LYNCHBURG, Tenn. — Twelve days ago, MCHS Raiderette Paisley Logan pitched a shut out in a mercy rule victory over the Lady Tigers. On Tuesday, it turned out to be the Raiders chance to shut out Fayetteville, when Jacob Baker took the mound and threw 64 strikes to blank the Tigers in a 2-0 victory in which Moore County did not allow a single run.

Both teams went three up and three down in the first, second, and third innings. Then, in the bottom of the fourth, Izaac Patterson singled on a hard ground ball to the Tiger short stop. Keller Morey then walked on the next pitch – advancing Patterson to second base. On the third at bat, Jacob Baker flied out to center field but not before Patterson tagged up with Morey and steamrolled towards first base for the Raiders first points of the game.

Moore County got their second run after Aiden Webster singled on a ground ball to the Tiger third baseman. On the next at bat, Will Parker doubled on a fly ball to left field – allowing Webster to score.

Baker then struck out two of four batters in the sixth inning to make it to the final stanza. On the final Tiger at bat, the a Fayetteville player doubled on the first at bat and then an error got one more on. With runners on second and third, Baker struck out the next batter and snagged a pop fly after that to preserve his shut out. Teammates Brantley Hill and Landon Smith helped him on the final play with an out at first base.

Baker pitched all seven innings – throwing 87 total pitches and 64 strikes. He sat down nine total batters. He also snagged five of six fly balls that came his way. Izaac Patterson led with two hits on three at bats. Connor Partin, Jace Long, Aiden Webster, and Will Parker each managed a hit each. Patterson also led along with Parker on stolen bases with two each.

The Raiders will rematch with the Tiger, this time in Fayetteville on Wednesday afternoon. •
