Raiderettes clip Lady Eagles 58-52

LOCAL SPORTS | Eagleville — The Raiderettes took control early and never looked back on Tuesday in their 58-52 win over the Lady Eagles. Moore County earned their second straight district victory. The win improves their record to 14-7 and 2-1. In District 8A standings, they currently sit in second place behind Huntland, who continues to be perfect in district play.

Moore County came into the match up fresh off a resounding 50-37 victory at Fayetteville last Friday night. Chloe Brazier (14) and Ellie Graham (12) combined for over half of the Raiderettes 50 points in the game. The Lady Eagles got a narrow one-point road victory over Cornersville last Friday prior to the Moore County game.

A tale of two periods

The first half of the game played out as the tale of two periods. In the first, Moore County went one a 13-point run with baskets by Ellie Graham, Chloe Brazier and a couple of treys by Charlotte Ray and Olivia Richards to mount a 17-3 lead.

In the second period, the Lady Eagles battled back and pieced together their own 14-point run to pull within two points of the Raiderettes. However, that final three point shot around the five minute mark was the last points for the Lady Eagles in the first half. Moore County went into the locker room with a 29-17 lead.

Second half foul trouble

Following the break, Chloe Brazier scored the first points of the third period with a basket inside. The Lady Eagles answered with a three point shot to make it 31-20. Charlotte Ray and Brazier then combined for six unanswered to pad the Moore County lead to 37-20. The Raiderettes and Lady Eagles then traded baskets down the stretch with Brazier and Olivia Richards putting up Moore County’s final five points of the third period. At the buzzer, Moore County continued to lead 42-29.

Things got ugly from there with the Lady Eagle and Raiderettes playing aggressive defense. Moore County got called for a total of 23 team fouls (as compared to the Lady Eagles 16) and three starters fouled out of the game including Ellie Graham, Chloe Brazier, and Charlotte Ray. The Lady Eagles made 12 of their 23 fourth period points from the line. Despite the inequity, the game was never in question for Moore County. They led down the stretch and at the final buzzer the Raiderettes walked away with another district win. The final score was Moore County 58, Eagleville 52.

Chloe Brazier led with 14 points

Chloe Brazier waited patiently for opportunities under the basket and Eagleville delivered. Brazier led for the Raiderettes with 23 points followed by Olivia Richards with 14.
