Raiderettes kick off the 2022-23 season with two wins at Hall of Fame Tournament

WHITWELL, Tenn. — This year’s Moore County High School Raiderettes basketball team is off to a great start. Over the weekend, they traveled to the Hall of Fame Tournament in Whitwell and won both games.

They beat the tournament host Whitwell High School 47-40 in their first game and bested Silverdale Baptist Academy of Chattanooga immediately after by a 44-36 score.

Raiderettes lead for four against Tigers

Against the Whitwell Tigers, Moore County jumped out to a early 17-8 lead in the first period and never looked back. They outscored Whitwell by four points in the second period to head into the locker room with a 32-19 lead. The Tigers fought back in the third period — scoring twice the Raiderettes’ points to pull within seven, but Moore County held on down the stretch.

Audrey Harder led for Moore County against Whitwell with 11 points — including three from the perimeter — followed closely by Maecy Fletcher with 10, Ava Butts with 9, and Paisley Logan with 8 points. Other contributing Raiderettes were: Katy Fletcher (4), Anna Harder (3), and Makenzie Goodwin (2).

Courtney Zensen led for Whitwell with 23 points.

Three Raiderettes score double digits against Seahawks

Moore County also jumped out to an early lead against the Silverdale Seahawks. The Raiderettes mounted a 15-9 lead in the first period and doubled Silverdale’s point in the second period to go into the locker room with a 27-15 lead. Silverdale mounted a come back in the third period — outscoring Moore County by four but the Raiderettes paced them in the fourth period to snag the W.

Three Raiderettes scored double digits against the Seahawks. Katy Fletcher led with 12 points followed closely by Paisley Logan with 11 and Madison Dingler with 10. Ava Butts scored six. Maecy Fletcher added three more and Anna Harder contributed a bucket.

Braylee Raby led for Silverdale with 10 points.

Play in Cornersville Thanksgiving tournament this week

They’ll spend Thanksgiving week playing in another pre-season tournament in Cornersville. They play Loretto on Monday at 10 a.m. and then Culleoka the following day at 4 p.m. Moore County’s Wednesday opponent will depend on the results of the first two games. For those who plan to go, Cornersville High School is located at 323 South Main Street in Cornersville.

The Raiderettes will kick off their regular season on Tuesday, November 29 in Culleoka. Their first district game won’t take place until January 10 with a home game against perennial rival the Huntland Lady Hornets. •
