It’s been a sluggish season so far for the Moore County Raiderettes’ softball team but that’s what happens when a smaller Class A school decides to stack their early games with Class AAAA heavy hitters like Franklin County and Shelbyville.

However, they got things started on the good foot this week with two district wins. They beat Huntland in Lynchburg on Tuesday by a score of 3-1 and blanked Fayetteville in Lincoln County on Thursday 6-0. The Raiderettes lost to district opponent Cornersville on March 14 by a final score of 12-1. They currently sit with a 2-1 district record.

Paisley Logan allows one hit against Huntland

On Tuesday, a strong pitching effort by senior Paisley Logan helped earn Moore County a 2-1 victory in seven innings. The Raiderettes and Lady Hornets managed a bit of a stalemate through four innings before Savannah Rose singled in the bottom of the fifth inning – scoring Logan, who’d reached third base on a passed ball on at bat earlier. Abby Neal then singled, scoring Rose on the next at bat to give Moore County an early 2-0 lead.

Huntland got on the board at the top of the sixth inning off a line drive single to left field to make it Raiderettes 2, Lady Hornets 1. Moore County scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth when Anna Leigh Ross scored on a passed ball.

Greenlee Ward, Paisley Logan, Savannah Rose, and Abby Neal all got hits against Huntland. Logan got the start and the win on the mound – throwing 94 pitches and allowing one hit and one run.

Logan pitches a shutout against Fayetteville

On Thursday, Moore County traveled to Fayetteville and earned a 6-0 win behind the lights out pitching of Paisley Logan. Logan got the start and the win with a perfect seven inning effort – allowing only two hits and no runs. Her teammates helped her preserve the shutout with outstanding fielding.

Moore County bats got on the board in the top of the first inning when Anna Leigh Ross singled on a line drive to the left field, scoring Greenlee Ward. Then two at bats later, Ross scored on an error by the Tiger shortstop. The two teams traded scoreless innings for stanzas two, three, and four. Then Anysten Metcalf doubled on a line drive to center field, scoring Ross. An at bat later, Neleh Dickey singled on a ground ball to the left field that scored Metcalf in the top of the fifth. At the end of five innings, Moore County led 4-0.

Paisley Logan singled in the fifth to score Greenlee Ward and Abby Neal singled in the seventh to score Savannah Rose to round out the Raiderette points.

Anna Leigh Ross led Moore County with three hits. Emilee Moorehead, Greenlee Ward, Paisley Logan, Anysten Metcalf, Savannah Rose, Neleh Dickey, Abby Neal, and Kaitlyn Vassar all got a single hit.
