LOCAL SPORTS NEWS | Lynchburg — Big bats lead to big wins.
Thanks to some outstanding action at the plate and solid pitching downs the stretch, the top seeded Moore County Raiders beat Cascade 8-4 on Friday to advance in the District 8A Tournament. Moore County is playing host to this year’s tournament and all games will take place in Lynchburg through May 11.
The Raiders won both regular season games against the Champions. On April 19, the Raiders travelled to Wartrace to earn an 11-1 blow out victory against Cascade. The following day, Cascade travelled to Lynchburg, where the Raiders snagged a 4-1 home victory.
Solid Raider performance all around
On Friday, more than one Raider earned hits. Chris Martin led with two hits on four at bats — driving in two runs on a single. Ryder Morey, Gage Burt, Donavin Pearson, and Keller Morey also got hits. Burt smacked a home run in the first inning.
On the mound, Ryder Morey got the start and the win for Moore County. He pitched four innings allowing just six hits and three runs, while striking out seven. Gage Burt relieved him in the fifth inning. He allowed three hits and struck out six.
The Raiders also stole seven bases during the game with two Raiders, Keller Morey and Ryder Morey, managing two each.
Today, at 2:30 p.m. the Raiders will face off with number two seed Eagleville. As the number one and number two teams in District 8A action, Moore County and Eagleville bot got a bye in first round action.
Moore County managed two narrow regular season victories against Eagleville. On April 5, they travelled to Eagleville and blanked the Eagles 2-0. The following day, the Eagles traveled to Lynchburg, where Moore County earned a one point victory thanks to mounting an early third inning lead off the bats of Gage Burt and Ryder Morey.
