Raiders sweep Eagles to maintain District 8A lead

LOCAL SPORTS NEWS | Lynchburg — The Moore County High School Raiders (7-4-2, 5-1) beat Eagleville (5-6, 1-3) for the second time this season on Tuesday to help them stay in the lead in District 8A play. The 6-5 win places Moore County in the driver’s seat for now. Huntland (3-6, 3-1) trails the Raiders by two games.

On Monday, the Raiders travelled to Rutherford County to eke out a 2-0 win thanks in no small part to the shut out pitching of Ryder Morey. (To read about that game, click here.) On Tuesday, the Eagles made a run for the win in the sixth inning but Moore County held them off to secure the one point win.

Kyler Parker led for Moore County going 3-for-4 at the plate. Chris Martin racked up multiple hits as well including a home run in fourth inning. In pitching, Jacob Baker got the start for Moore County. Gage Burt got the win – surrendering just two runs and four hits over two and a third innings. The right-hander struck out two and walked one. Keller Morey relieved Burt out of the bullpen.

The Raiders will take on District 8AAA Franklin County in Lynchburg Thursday afternoon in a non-district game. The game starts at 5 p.m. and tickets are available on the Go Fan app. •
