LOCAL NONPROFIT NEWS — Turning an art passion into support for puppies (and kittens too) … that’s what’s happening next week on the Online Auctions for Friends of Animals Facebook page.
Beginning Friday, April 30 at noon (CST), the Lynchburg Friends of Animals Online Auctions Facebook page will launch a Silent Art Auction featuring around 40 paintings recently donated to the local nonprofit from a Murfreesboro artist’s estate. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Friends of Animals Rescue and Adoption Center.
Jean Lorraine (Cullen) Hoechst’s daughter Jeanne donated the works. The nearly 40 oil, watercolor, and pastels paintings represent over 40 years of Jean’s prolific life as an artist. Her subjects include landscapes, portraits, still life, animals, and the outdoors and her style ranges from realism to primitive. Jeanne says her mother’s favorite medium was pastels followed closely by oil and watercolor. Many of the works available at the silent auction have been professionally framed. Jean Hoechst died in 2018 just shy of her ninety-sixth birthday. Her daughter says she’ll always remember her mother as quick-witted person with an outstanding sense of humor and a creative spirit. In addition to painting, she also enjoyed singing and ceramics. She constantly worked to perfect her art taking community college classes and workshops well into her eighties.
Bidding will take place over seven days
The benefit Silent Art Auction will open at noon on Friday, April 30 and end on Thursday, May 6 at noon. The opening bid on each piece will be $10 and bidders should increase their bid on each item in whole dollar amounts. For example, if the existing bid on a painting is $40 a new bidder would need to bid at least $41 to secure the bid. After the silent auction ends, the winning bidder will be contacted privately via Facebook Messenger. Winning bidders can pay for and pick up their art on Saturday, May 8 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Lynchburg Friends of Animals. The local rescue can accept cash, checks, and PayPal payments.
Friends of Animals Rescue and Adoption Center is a homegrown 501c3 organization dedicated to making a difference in the lives of Moore County’s pet population. Metro Moore County does not have an animal shelter and the Moore County Sheriff’s Department does not have an animal control officer. Friends of Animals works tirelessly to fill in that gap by rescuing, caring for, and rehoming stray and abandoned dogs and cats in our community.
