FRANKLIN COUNTY, Tenn. — Start off 2023 on the right foot by getting outside and enjoying the local beauty and wonder that’s available right here in our backyard with a First Day Hike at Tims Ford State Park on the Moore County, Franklin County line.

Tennessee State Parks’ First Day Hikes are part of America’s State Parks First Day Hikes initiative in all 50 states. Most hikes are free but each state park accepts donations. To see all the First Day Hikes being offered in our state on January 1, 2023, click here

Tims Ford State Park rangers will meet you at the Nature Center around 1:30 p.m. The group will hike the Lost Creek Overlook Trail from the overlook and back via the paved trail. Rangers designed First Day Hikes for all ages and abilities. The total hike distance will be around 2.3 miles. The hike should end around 3:30 p.m.

Temperatures that day should be around 60 degrees. Hikers will need to provide their own snacks and drinks. Food trucks may be onsite following the hike. Other hikes will be available at Henry Horton State Park in Chapel Hill, Old Stone State Park in Manchester, as well as South Cumberland State Park in Monteagle.

Tims Ford State Park in situated around the 10,700 acre Tims Ford Lake just outside of Moore County. It sits in the shadows of the Cumberland Plateau and offers hiking, swimming, camping, and numerous special event throughout the year.
