MCHS graduate Craig Elder dies at 53

Craig Alan Elder 1967 – 2021

LOCAL OBITUARY — Craig Alan Elder, age 53 of Winchester, died on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

A native of Covina, California, Craig was born on August 28, 1967 and served his country in the United States Army. He was employed at Nissan for over 25 years as a machine operator. An avid Tennessee fan, he enjoyed watching football and cheering for the Vols. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as cooking. But most of all, Craig cherished the time he spent with his beloved friends and family, especially his grandchildren. According to his family, Craig never met as stranger, and was a daddy he didn’t have to be. He was lovingly referred to as “Papa C” by his grandkids that he showered with candy and bubbles.

His mother, Dolores Elder, preceded him in death as well as his sister, Susan Elder. He is survived by his daughter, Libbie (Dustin) Cook of Tullahoma; grandchildren, Aydalyn Cook, Brixten Cook, Brantlee Cook, and McKinzlee Cook, all of Tullahoma; father, Harvey Elder of Lynchburg; siblings, Michael Elder of Lynchburg, and Debbie (Alan) Howard of Temple, Georgia; niece, Melissa Buchanon; and nephews, Justin Elder, and David “Thumper” Andrews.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 25, 2021 from 12-2 p.m. at Jennings-Moore-Cortner Funeral Home located at 181 Majors Boulevard in Lynchburg. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. •
