It’s official. Here’s who filed to run in Moore County’s August 6 election

LYNCHBURG, Tenn. — The road to Moore County’s August 6th election has been anything but smooth. A filing dispute that spawned at least one lawsuit finally resolved last week prior to the March 10 deadline, and the field of candidates is now set. From a three-way race for mayor to crowded council district contests, residents will have plenty of decisions to make this summer. Here is a complete look at every candidate who filed, organized by office.

Mayor — Three candidates filed for Metropolitan Mayor. Keith B. Moses also filed February 18. Sloan Stewart filed March 3.

Metropolitan Council — District 1 (Unexpired Term): Two candidates are vying for the District 1 unexpired term. Jerry Burks Jr. filed March 9. Sunny Rae Moorehead filed March 9.

Metropolitan Council — District 2: Five candidates filed for District 2. Hampton Hoffman filed February 9. Douglas Anthony Carson II filed February 23. Robert Bracewell filed February 24. M. Michelle Riddle filed March 9. Virginia (Jenny) Gold Saddler filed March 9. Payton Keller also filed on March 10.

Metropolitan Council — District 3: Five candidates filed for District 3. Jayson Estfon filed February 19. John Oosting filed February 19. Dexter Golden filed February 19. Christopher Benson filed March 6. Houston D. Lindsey filed March 9.

Metropolitan Council — District 5: Five candidates filed for District 5. Regina Adcock filed February 18. Cody Ryan Lanier filed February 19. Brady Goodwin filed February 19. Brandon Ross filed March 6. Whitney Ross also filed March 6.

Sheriff: The sheriff’s race has two candidates running on different tracks. Justin Tyler Hatfield filed February 9 as an independent candidate in the August 6 County General election. William Raline filed January 29 in the Republican Primary, which takes place May 5.

County Offices: Several county offices also have candidates on record. Pam Wells filed January 14 for Register of Deeds. Linda S. Wolaver filed January 27 for Circuit Court Clerk. Lynn Harrison filed January 28 for County Trustee. Lacy Ivey filed January 16 for County Clerk, and Kelly Harrison filed February 19 for the same seat, setting up a two-candidate race.

School Board: Greg Thompson filed March 9 for School Board Member in District 3.

State: Cynthia A. Cregier filed February 17 for State Executive Committeewoman, District 14, in the Democratic Primary.

Just as a reminder, even though all these candidates met the filing deadline, they still have seven days to change their minds. According to the Tennessee Secretary of State website, all candidates for the August 6 ballot have until Tuesday, March 17 at noon to withdrawal.

The voter registration deadline is Tuesday, July 7 and early voting will begin on Friday, July 17 and extend through Saturday, August 1. Absentee ballots must be requested by Monday, July 27.

All candidates listed have received Required Signatures Approved status. The County General Election is August 6, 2026. The Republican Primary is May 5, 2026. The Lynchburg Times will profile candidates and races in the weeks ahead. •
