LYNCHBURG, Tenn. — Former Moore County Public Library Librarian Betty Jo (Turner) Robertson died on July 1, 2025. Born on April 5, 1931, to Aubrey Brown and Mary Sue (Horton) Turner, she was raised in Anes Station, Tennessee with her life-long best friend and sister, Tabitha.
In 1955, she married David Lane Robertson and the couple soon started their travel with the U.S. Navy. According to her family, two of their most memorable stops were Trinidad and Tobago where they welcomed their daughter Terry Sue, and Virginia Beach, Virginia where they welcomed their son Michael.
Betty Jo was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and a cherished member of the Lynchburg community. She held many meaningful roles in town. One of her most treasured was working as the librarian at The Moore County Public Library from September 1973-October 1994. Likewise, she’s remembered for her hard work with the Lynchburg Historical Society. She was a member of Booneville Church of Christ, frequent visitor of the Senior Citizens Center, member of the American Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary, and former hostess at Miss Mary Bobo’s. Her home was a place of warmth and welcome, where friends and strangers alike were treated as family, and her cooking nourished body and soul. Betty Jo had a gift for making others feel seen, valued, and at home no matter who they were.
