LOCAL OBITUARY | Lynchburg native Rosa Ann Burton died on Monday, March 3, 2025, surrounded by family at the age of 79. A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, March 8, at 2:00pm at Lynchburg Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service for a visitation from 12:00pm until time of service.
She was born November 10, 1945, to the late Carnice S.T. and Flossie Mae Smith Golden. According to her family, she was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother as well as a wonderful mother who was always there when she was needed the most, offering support, wisdom and love in abundance. She loved the Lord and gave her heart to Him at a young age and served Him faithfully. Because of her, two daughters and her husband (Jim) found Christ. Rosa and Jim redirected their lives to God in July 2005. Both were baptized on the same day.
Rosa had an amazing green thumb and loved to work outdoors in her flower beds, gardening and mowing her yard, which she did until last year. She was a wonderful country cook and always sent food home with her loved ones after every family gathering.
She was also crazy about her four grandchildren, Ben, Katie, Sam and Elijah, and her great granddaughter Rosalie, who was named after two great grandmothers and won her heart when they first met.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James S. Burton and her brothers J.C. Golden and Frankie Golden.
She is survived by her daughters, Regina (Derek) Warren of Shelbyville and Tina (Anthony) O’Neal of Lynchburg. Her grandchildren, Ben and Katie Warren of Shelbyville, Sam (Emily) O’Neal and Elijah O’Neal of Tullahoma, one great grandchild, Rosalie O’Neal, and her siblings, Elizabeth (Jimmy) Millsaps of Lynchburg and Melvin (Glenda) Golden of Shelbyville along with several nieces and nephews. •
