TBI investigating after Coffee County Mayor Judd Matheny found dead on Tuesday

TULLAHOMA – According to a press release from the Tullahoma Police Department, Coffee County Mayor and former Tennessee State representative Judd Matheny was found dead at his East Lincoln Street home on Tuesday morning. He was 53 years old and one-week shy of his 54th birthday.

Tullahoma authorities received a call about a possible death early this morning. Once onsite, law enforcement discovered the body of Matheny. No official cause of death has been released.

Law enforcement stated that the incident was being treated as an active investigation and the matter has been handed over to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI). TBI stated they were investigating at the request of 14th Judicial District Attorney General Craig Northcott and that an autopsy would be performed.

Matheny had been mayor of Coffee County since September 2022. Before that, he was a state representative for the districts of Coffee, Grundy and Warren counties. •
