We don’t know everything but we do know that there is no cooler place to celebrate Halloween than on the historic Lynchburg Square. Over the years, this event has grown into a huge block party for our local kids with a costume contest, trunk or treating, a dance party, scavenger hunt, and a special guest or two.

The event kicks off at 5 p.m. on the Square in Lynchburg. Here’s are some of the things we think you won’t want to miss:

1 | The Headless Horseman entrance – If you’ve never seen Lynchburg’s Headless Horseman enter the historic Lynchburg Square during Halloween in the Hollow then you are missing out. It’s both creepy and charming at the same time. Rumor has it there will be another special guest at the 2021 event.

2 | The Monster Mash with Mr. Dusty at 7:30 p.m. – If you aren’t on the Lynchburg Square in your best costume on Saturday to get down with everyone’s favorite local fourth grade teacher and DJ then where are you at?

3 | Trunk or Treating Around the Square. – Why walk endless neighborhoods in a quest to snag the best candy when it’s all located in one fun spot? Lots of local clubs and organizations like the Moore County High School Football Team will be onsite handing out treats for the kiddos.

4 | The Pumpkin Promenade Scavenger Hunt. – Organizers have once again added a scavenger hunt to this year’s event and you’ll need a map to participate. Find all 12 pumpkins located throughout the event and win a prize. They are $7 each and can be bought at both Velma’s Candy and the Old Jail Museum leading up to the event. All proceed will fund next year’s Halloween in the Hollow.

5 | Get a limited-edition commemorative poster. The Lynchburg Chamber commissioned local graphic artist and MCHS Alumni Cliff Baker to create a special poster for this year’s event. The 12×18 poster will be available the day of the event for $12 each or $20 for a framed poster. All proceeds go toward the cost of hosting the event.

Individuals who plan to participate in Trunk or Treat this year should enter from Main Street. Halloween in the Hollow will have personnel waiting to check you in and take you to your assigned area. You’ll need to arrive around 4 p.m. and be prepared to stay until no earlier than 8 p.m. for the safety of the trick-or-treater, according to event officials. Since they are expecting a large crowd this year, “We would love to have more people with trunks” giving out candy, they said.

Also locals should be aware that the Moore County Sheriff’s Department will start shutting down streets for the event around 3 p.m.
