A haunted hay ride … a guided fall colors hike … haunted woods on Short Mountain … the debut Big Foot Blues Festival … carve a pumpkin at Tim’s Ford … the annual Bell Buckle Art Shows … and a Murder Mystery Masquerade … yeah, there’s plenty to do this weekend.

1 | Horton’s Haunted Hayride — It’s been rumored for years that there are some spooky things going on in Chapel Hill at Henry Horton State Park. A woman wandering the grounds in an antebellum dress … a distraught mother searching the Duck River for her lost baby … there’s just no telling what you might see on the Haunted Hayride on October 18. 2 | Fall Color Hike at South Cumberland State Park | The fall colors should be coming in soon and there’s no better view than that of the Fiery Gizzard Trail near Tracy City. Park officials plan a guided hike on Friday. Click here for more details.

3 | Short Mountain Haunted Woods — Is there a headless woman wandering the roads of Cannon County? Will the blood stains on Dead Man’s Curve really not come off … even after they repave it? It sure makes the annual Haunted Woods at Short Mountain Distillery a little more spooky to think about it. The event happens Friday and Saturday for the next two weekends. Click here for more info.

4 | Bigfoot Blues Festival — Southern, middle Tennessee’s always been know for craft whiskey but now we’re starting to gain a reputation for our local music festivals. It started with Bonnaroo, then the Lynchburg Music Fest added something for country lover. The Exit 111 Festival brought rock, metal, and punk to the area last weekend and on October 18-20 blues will be the focus of the debut Bigfoot Blues Festival on Monteagle Mountain. 5 | Carve a Pumpkin at Tims Ford — It’s October and pumpkin carving is top of mind. It’s fun to pick out a pumpkin and carve at home but somehow the fun and creativity factor goes up a notch when you make it a group activity. On Saturday, October 19 Tims Ford State Park will host a Carve a Pumpkin event at Shelter #2 on Picnic Road. The cost is $10 per person. Ranger Smith will be onsite with pumpkin carving tools but participants should bring their own pumpkins. The event takes place from 10-11 a.m. Click here for more details.

6 | Bell Buckle Art Show — The third-weekend-in-October art show that happens in Bell Buckle each year is really two art shows. Together they’ll bring nearly 800 arts, crafts, and food vendors into quaint, tree lined Bell Buckle. Click here for more details.

7 | Murder at the Masquerade Fayetteville — Think of it as IRL version of the board game Clue … except with a tasty dinner. On Saturday, Marshall’s Corner Cafe will host a interactive Murder Mystery Dinner. Your $25 ticket gets you either chicken alfredo or lasagna plus and opportunity to guess who the bad guy is.
