LOCAL NEWS — The Metro Council will meet on Monday in a regular session meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Lynchburg Legion located just off Highway 129 near the Moore County Public Pool.
It’s budgeting season and the Metro Budget Committee will meet prior to the regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. Council member Gordon Millsaps has also called a meeting of the Highway Advisory Committee to take place at 6 p.m. prior to the regular meeting.
In elections and appointments, Mayor Lewis will present members of the Redistricting Committee for council approval. Metro Moore County districts may need to be adjusted in the fall based on the latest Census numbers. State laws require that all five Moore County districts be within a certain percentage of each other for equal representation. This committee will oversee that process. The following citizens will be recommended for approval: Ron Bradford (first district), Merle Moorehead (second district), Larry Hatfield (third district), Stacy Preston (fourth district)and Tanya Vann (fifth district). Mayor Lewis will also recommend that Elections Administrator Jim Sander serve as liaison.
The Metro Council will hear a request to rezone .38 acres in Moore County’s First District belonging to Steven W. Dodds and Justin M. Dodds. They’d like the parcel rezoned from residential to commercial to build a retail store on Highway 55 just before the intersection of Highway 129.
The council will be asked to authorize the 2021-22 Litter Grant application. Metro applies for the grant on a yearly basis to help Metro clear litter and trash from area roadways. The Tennessee Department of Transportation funds the grant.
They will also discuss changing Metro Ordinance 4.160, which discusses what is and is not allowed inside Metro Moore County in regards to occupancy of travel trailers and recreational vehicles.
