LYNCHBURG, Tenn. —In order to be in alignment with Tennessee state law, the Metro School Board voted to move the first full day of school for the 2022-23 school year during Monday night Metro School Board meeting at Moore County High School.

The revision will move the first full day of school to Monday, August 8. Previously, that date would have served as an administrative day where only teachers report to school but not students. Now, that administrative day will take place on Tuesday, November 8 to correspond to the state and federal election in Tennessee.

“It’s illegal for students to be in the building if it’s going to be used as a voting location,” Director Chad Moorehead explained to the Board.

Both Lynchburg Elementary and Moore County High School serve as voting locations in Lynchburg.
