RICHLAND, Tenn. — The Moore County High School Raiderettes are making the most of their holiday break including giving younger players some valuable reps. They travelled to Giles County on Tuesday to play in the Richland Christmas Tournament — beating the Gordonsville Tigers 44-24.
Gordonsville plays in Class A, Region 4, District 7. The win advanced Moore County to a 9-5 record and drops the Tigers to 6-8. The two teams will not play in the regular season. Raiderette defense shuts down Tigers in first period
Moore County tripled the Tigers first half points. They jumped out early with a trey by Paisley Logan, baskets by Katy Fletcher and Madison Dingler, and three from the line by Maecy Fletcher. The fierce Raiderette defense did not allow a single first period point. At the end of the first eight minutes, Moore County led 11-0.
Unsurprisingly, Coach Spencer began substituting heavily in the second period. Makenzie Goodwin came off the bench and swished a trey in the second period. By halftime, Moore County led 30-11
Ultimately, the 19 point first half lead ended up being too much for the Tigers. Moore County outscored them 9-5 in the third period with Emma Sazonov coming off the bench for a basket. Ellie Graham shot her second trey of the game in the third period.
Moore County endured down the stretch, though they seemed to take their foot off the gas in the final stanza — allowing the Tigers to outscore them by three. At the final buzzer, they notched a 44-24 victory.
Paisley Logan led all players with 11 points followed by Ellie Graham with eight points. Other contributing Raiderettes were Madison Dingler (6), Makenzie Goodwin, Maecy Fletcher and Emma Sazonov (5 points each) and Katy Fletcher (4). Kamala Young led fro Gordonsville with seven points.
Paisley Logan and Ellie Graham were the top 3-point shooters with six points each. Maecy Fletcher was five of six from the line.
Moore County will play again in Richland at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Their tournament opponent wasn’t determined at press time. •
