CORNERSVILLE, Tenn. — The Moore County Raider offense caught fire Friday night in Cornersville – putting up 20 points while holding the Bulldogs to just a single basket in the first period. That 18 point lead held up down the stretch and the Raiders walked away with a 57-40 district win.
The win puts the Raiders in third place in the District 9A standing with a 2-2 record. Fayetteville sits in first place with a spotless 4-0 district record followed by Huntland (3-1). Eagleville (1-3) and Cornersville 0-4 sit in fourth and fifth place respectively.
Moore County came into the game fresh off a gritty home win against Eagleville last Tuesday. {Read our full coverage of that game by clicking here.} Cornersville came into the Raider matchup following a 64-49 road loss to Community. Friday’s game was the first meeting this season for the two District 9A teams. They will play again in Lynchburg on Tuesday, February 7.
Moore County mounted an 18 point lead in the first period thanks to baskets by Alex Copeland, Will Baker, and Peyton Martin as well as 3-point shots by Copeland and Wes Clifton. Dawson White also swished two from the line. Martin led for Moore County in the first period with eight points.
Cornersville attempted a come back in the second period – outscoring the Raiders by one – but still went into the locker room trailing Moore County 32-15. Both Copeland and Martin led in the first half with eight points each. Cornersville and Moore County each scored 25 points in the second half. At the final buzzer, Moore County notched a 57-40 victory.

Will Baker led for Moore County with 16 points followed closely by Alex Copeland and Dawson White with 12 points each. Peyton Martin added another 10 points. Wes Clifton swished a trey and Tristyn Gray and Sawyer Parks each came off the bench and added a bucket each. Ben Franklin led for Cornersville with 13 points.
Moore County made 28 points from the floor and another 12 from the perimeter. They shot 17 of 26 (65 percent) from the line. For comparison, Cornersville added 20 points from the floor and nine from the 3-point line. They were 11 of 22 (50 percent) from the line.
Moore County will play a non-district game against Cannon County at home on Monday. •
