EAGLEVILLE, Tenn. — Senior Landon Smith put on a pitching clinic on Sunday to help lead the Moore County Raiders to a 4-3 win over the Fayetteville Tigers and earn a spot in today’s District 9A Championship game to be played in Eagleville this afternoon.
Moore County played the game on Sunday after getting rained out on both Friday and Saturday.
Smith struck out an impressive 13 batters and allowed just three hits and two runs over five innings on the mound. Cole Taylor came into relief pitch and allowed zero runs during his one and a half innings on the mound. Taylor also stole two of four stolen bases during the game.
Moore County got on the board when Taylor scored first off a wild pitch in the first inning. Fayetteville answered in the second inning to tie the game 1-1. Then the Raiders took the lead again in the bottom of the fourth when Smith drew a walk – scoring Peyton Martin for one run to make it 2-1. Braden Works set up that score with a double on a fly ball to center field.
Martin singled in the bottom of the fifth off a lightning-fast line drive down the left baseline to score Taylor. Then, Works singled to drive in the final run for Moore County.
The Tigers managed one run in the top of the sixth to make it 4-2.
Works, Martin, and Smith each drove in one run each for Moore County. Works led with two hits. Blakely Bobo also added a hit.
Taylor, Bobo, and Luke Stephens stole four bases from the Tigers.
