On Saturday, something sweet happens in Belvidere

BELVIDERE, Tenn. — On the first Saturday of each month, something quietly remarkable happens at The Swiss Pantry in Belvidere. People show up early. Word travels. And before long, the homemade donuts are sold out.

Usually they make vanilla, maple, and chocolate confections but this Saturday, April 4, the beloved Donut Saturday tradition gets a springtime addition: a homemade strawberry jam-filled donut with vanilla glaze — made from scratch, right on the premises, the way everything at the Swiss Pantry is made.

The “5+2” Story

The Swiss Pantry has been a community favorite in this corner of Franklin County for years. But in April 2025, it found new life when Luke and Victoria Massey — the “2” in their family bakery brand 5+2 Co. Sourdough — purchased the shop and brought their own story with them.

Victoria’s sourdough journey began around 2018, when curiosity about flour, water, and salt deepened into craft. Year after year she refined her technique, eventually developing the Classic Loaf that became the cornerstone of what would become a family business. By the time they were selling at local markets in Huntsville — their five children in tow — the community had already found them.

“What started as curiosity quickly grew into a deep passion,” the Masseys write on their website. “Every recipe we make was developed by hand and with care you won’t find anywhere else.”

Those market years, those early-morning setups and customer conversations, built the foundation of trust that eventually opened the door to the Swiss Pantry. The leap, they say, felt both monumental and perfectly right.

More Than Donuts

Donut Saturday is the draw, but the Swiss Pantry is the destination. The shelves hold what southern middle Tennessee’s best producers and the Masseys’ own kitchen can offer: sourdough bread baked in-house, cakes, pies, cookies, jams, jellies, homemade candies and confections, soups, salads, sandwiches, and fresh eggs.

They also carry locally-raised, organic, grass-fed beef, chicken, and pork sourced from area farms — the kind of meat that comes with a story about where it was raised, not just a label.

For patio dining or take-out, the Swiss Pantry invites you to slow down — which is, perhaps, exactly the point.

Doors open on Donut Saturday at 8 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. — but the donuts will run out way before then. They recommend calling ahead to reserve yours at 931-962-0567. They are located at 10026 David Crockett Parkway West in Belvidere. To learn more visit their website or Facebook page. •
