Former LES teacher Dorothy Eady passes at age 96

LOCAL OBITUARY | Lynchburg’s Dorothy Louise Hall Eady, age 96, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 5, 2026 at her home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on January 24, 1930 in Moore County to the late Willie Matt and Omah Hall. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Claude Eady, and three brothers, Oundell Hall, J.D. Hall, and Roy Hall.

She grew up and attended school in Lynchburg before graduating from West End High School in Fayetteville. After high school, she continued her education at A&I University, now Tennessee State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Education. She was a lifelong member of Berry Chapel AME Church, faithfully serving as church secretary and treasurer until her passing. Dedicated to the field of education, she taught in Moore County for more than 40 years, positively impacting countless students throughout her career. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, cleaning, working in the church, and watching soap operas.

She is survived by her son, Kevin (Danielle) Eady; granddaughter, Maya (Anthony) Nichols; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation with the family will take place on Wednesday, June 10 from 4-7 p.m. at J.A. Welton & Son Funeral Home in Tullahoma and Thursday, June 11, 2026 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Berry Chapel AME Church in Lynchburg with funeral services following at 1 p.m. with Rev. Archie Griffin officiating and Pastor Coleman March, Jr. as eulogist. Interment will follow at Highview Cemetery in Lynchburg.
