Lynchburg native Steve Durm dies at 76

LOCAL OBITUARY | Orval Stephen (Steve) Durm of Lynchburg passed away on Thursday, February 27 at Vanderbilt-Harton Regional Medical Center in Tullahoma. He was 76 years old.

Born at Lincoln County Hospital on March 7, 1948 to the late Orval Awalt and Oma Lee (Bunt) Gore Durm, Steve graduated from Moore County High School in 1966, and was a proud serviceman of the United States Army.

A resident of Moore County, he worked as a guard at Jack Daniel’s Distillery for over 20 years, and in his later years, he loved to wheel and deal antiques and collectibles and was very knowledgeable about knives, glassware, old toys, and Jack Daniel’s items.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Albert and Otsie Hasty Durm, maternal grandparents Arthur and Nancy Hall Gore, and son-in-law Bret Cates.

Steve is survived by his wife of 53 years, Roxann Dusenberry Durm of Lynchburg, daughters Sonya (David) Long of New Johnsonville and Valerie Cates of Lynchburg, grandsons Brad Cates of Lynchburg, Bron Cates of Nashville, Brice Cates of Lynchburg, and Austin Long of New Johnsonville, along with his siblings Tim (Dana) Durm of Baxter, Nick Durm of Fayetteville, Donna Tucker of Lynchburg, and Leanne (Brian Minoux) Durm of Lynchburg, and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his beloved and well-fed cat, Einstein.

The family will receive friends at Lynchburg Funeral Home located at 1630 Fayetteville Highway in Lynchburg. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Graveside services will immediately follow at Beech Hill Cemetery. •
