LYNCHBURG, Tenn. — The Moore County Middle School Raiders got behind early and couldn’t catch on Thursday at the MCHS Gym. The Unity Lion bested them 54-26.
Unity got out to an early 21-6 first quarter lead. Moore County got on the board with a basket by Jojo Pettygrue, and two shots each from the line by Sawyer Boyce and Laken Wade.
The Lions won the second stanza as well — putting up 12 and holding the Raiders to just four — all from Wade.
Moore County went into the lock room trailing, 33-10.
Moore County came alive in the third quarter and outscored Unity by three. Grayson Hill and Kurt Smith swished treys while Pettygrue added a basket and Whitt Sumners scored two more. They continued to trail at the end of the third, 42-22.
Unity held the Raiders to just four points — all from Sully Townes — while putting up 12. At the final buzzer. the Raiders dropped a home game 54-26.
Laken Wade led with six points followed closely by Jojo Pettygrue, Sully Townes, and Whit Sumners with four each. Grayson Hill and Kurt Smith made a trey each and Sawyer Boyce added two from the line. •
