Motlow State opens women’s basketball season on Wednesday

LOCAL SPORTS | The Motlow Bucks women’s basketball team will open the 2023-24 season when they travel to Fulton, Mississippi to face Itawamba Community College on Wednesday, November 1, at 5:30 p.m.

Motlow will play two more road games before opening the home season on Monday, November 13 when Itawamba makes a return trip to Nisbett Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and admission is $6.

Head Coach Jeromy Barbee says he is optimistic going into his second season at the helm. Coach Barbee named Brea Edwards as an assistant coach this year. Edwards was an All-Conference USA player at Middle Tennessee State University.

Of note on this season’s roster is a player Moore County Raiderettes’ fans should be familiar with from last season. Former Fayettteville Lady Tiger Autum Nunemaker will play at Motlow State. The 5’10’ center from Fayetteville High School score triple-doubles for the Lady Tigers. A complete list of this season’s players is as follows:

SOPHOMORES

Destiny Russell – 5’10” guard/forward from Winchester. Russell played for the Bucks last season.

A’Maria Thomison – 5’10” center/forward from Fayetteville. Thomison played for the Bucks in 2022-23.

Ja’Mya Gooch – 5’8” guard from Nashville. Gooch transferred from Columbia State, where she averaged 9.5 points, three rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game last season.

Samara Calso – 5’11” guard/forward from Kissimmee, FL. Calso transferred from College of Coastal Georgia.

Divora Yared – 5’8 guard/forward from Alberta, Calgary. Yared transferred from Edmonds College.

FRESHMEN

Tya Johnson – 5’6 redshirt freshman guard from Memphis. Tya helped lead her Bartlett High School team to the Class 4A state championship game in 2022-23, averaging three points, 1.2 rebounds, 0.6 assists and 0.4 steals per game.

Kaitlyn Williams – 5’9” forward from Horn Lake High School in Horn Lake, MS. Kaitlyn helped lead her team to a 20-8 record last year.

Dan’Angela Wilson – 5’7” point guard from Blackman High School in Murfreesboro. Dan’Angela averaged 5.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 2.4 steals per game as Blackman went 31-3 last year.

Lovely Alexander – 5’8” guard from Clarksville who also played at Blackman. Lovely averaged 4.3 points, two rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 0.8 steals per game.

Autum Nunemaker – 5’10’ center from Fayetteville High School. Autum had multiple triple-doubles for the Lady Tigers.

Brenivye Richardson – 5’10” center from Maplewood High School in Nashville. Brenivye also played softball, volleyball, and track & field during her high school career.
