LYNCHBURG — It’s no secret to anyone in Lynchburg that Jack Daniel loved music. His home here in Lynchburg featured a ballroom where he often hosted dances and during his time, he outfitted Mr. Jack Daniel’s Original Silver Cornet Band. So kicking off the 2024 Jack Daniel’s World Championship Invitational Barbecue with a concert seems apropos.
On Thursday, October 10 up-and-coming signer, songwriter Redferrin will play the first-ever BBQ Bash in the Hollow at the Lynchburg Welcome Center.
The performance will take place at the Lynchburg Visitor’s Center from 6-9 p.m. The door will open at 5:30 p.m. Sam Varga will open.
Songwriter by the way of motorcross
Blake Redferrin grew up in White House, Tennessee riding dirt bikes and plucking at the Gibson guitars his dad would bring home from work. With his dad listening to ZZ Top, his mom dialing her radio into to classic radio, and his sister blaring Nelly and Three 6 Mafia, Redferrin says his musical tasted blended into a musical soup.
Like many now famous, Nashville artists, Redferrin started his musical career as a songwriter. He’s wracked up co-writing credits on hits like Florida Georgia Line’s hip hop inspired Countryside and Nelly’s Lil Bit. But his first love was professional motocross. In fact, he originally turned down a publishing deal for the dirt track life, but then fate stepped in. The weekend after, he broke his arm at the Georgia Dome in his first stadium race. It took him over a year to work his way back to the publishing deal.
His sound can best be defined as unorthodox and slightly rebellious. He writes adrenaline-pumping songs laced with swagger and a bit of heartbreak. One of his first hits Jack and Diet Coke became Internet famous with more than 30 million global streams. It also got the attention of the distillery who invited him for a visit to Lynchburg.
“I fell in love with Jack even more when I got to see the people making it and how down-home it is,” he told Liza Anderson in a recent interview in Music Row. “I got to learn about whiskey rather than just drink it.”
He loved it so much that he named his debut EP, Old No. 7. It features songs like Jack and Diet Coke, the regret-soaked She’s Like Whiskey, and our favorite Just Like Johnny, which hints at his bad-boy-with-a-heart-of-gold persona.
Ticket are now on sale for the show at this link. The cost is $50 per person ages 21 and over or $25 for those under the age of 21. All 21+ tickets include three drink tickets. There will be food truck and activities on site.
