CROSSVILLE, Tenn. — The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture will host its annual Steak and Potatoes Field Day on Thursday, August 20, at the Plateau AgResearch and Education Center in Crossville, offering free access to research and expertise that local producers would otherwise have to travel much farther, or pay, to reach.

The event, about two hours from Lynchburg, runs from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. CDT and features more than 15 presentations from UT AgResearch and UT Extension specialists. Topics include livestock and forages, weed and pest management, soil health, irrigation, and commercial and home gardening, along with a session on the New World screwworm, a livestock pest of growing concern for cattle producers. Vendors, a student poster contest and wagon tours of the research center will also be available.

On-site registration opens at 8 a.m., with presentations beginning at 8:30 a.m. A sponsored lunch follows the seminars. Pre-registration is encouraged but not required, and is available at tiny.utk.edu/SP2026.

The center will also host the Fall Gardeners’ Festival on August 25 at 9 a.m., in cooperation with the Cumberland County Master Gardeners, a UT Extension program. That event will include gardening presentations, workshops, exhibits, wagon tours and vendors. Details are available at ccmga.org. •
