LOCAL NEWS — According to Metro Mayor Bonnie Lewis the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) plans to install a turn lane at Moore County High School in 2021. The council voted unanimously on Monday on a resolution approving the turning lane project along Highway 55 at the high school.

The project’s intent is to bring the Moore County school zone within state compliance and TDOT will fund the new turn lane including utilities relocation.

TDOT will install turn lanes at both the entrance to MCHS and Goodbranch Road directly across from the Lynchburg Nursing Center. There will also be a separate turn lane at the entrance to the softball an baseball fields. The project will begin just west of the the Moore County Water Treatment Plant. The bridge nearest the plant will be widened to a three lane bridge. The turning lane project will end just east of the high school past the entrance to MCHS.

According to Mayor Lewis, the project will not affect the MCHS baseball and softball fields. The project is currently in the right of way phase and may changes as it progresses.
