LYNCHBURG, Tenn. — Organizer recently announced the date of this year’s Lynchburg 9/11 Memorial 5K last week. The Metro Moore County Volunteer Fire Department, Jack Daniel’s Fire Brigade, and the Jack Daniel Distillery co-sponsor the event each September to coincide with the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks that took place in 2001. The second annual event will take place on Saturday, September 10 beginning at 7:30 a.m.

The registration for the inaugural event in 2021 sold out in just two weeks. First responders can use the promo code FIRSTRESPONDER in the next 48 hours.

Proceed from the race benefit the Tunnels to Towers group, which provides mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first responder families. To learn more about the non-profit, click here. Last year the event raised over $15,000 for the non-profit.

Registration for this year’s event will open on July 1 on the Tunnel to Towers website.

Organizers ask that all current and former firefighters, law enforcement, and EMS to run/walk the event in their gear as a sign of respect and admiration for the lives lost that day. They’d also like to invite all current and former military to participate in full ruck gear in both the 5K and the parade.

On race day, participants will line up just off the historic Lynchburg Square near the Jack Daniel Distillery Visitor’s Center. Prizes will be awarded to Overall Male, Overall Female, as well as first place finishers by age division. Pre-race packets can be picked up on Friday, September 9 from 5-7 p.m. at the Lynchburg Gazebo.
