LOCAL SPORTS NEWS — Moore County has a big baseball weekend ahead of them.
Ending the regular season in first place comes with some perks and one of those is hosting the district tournament. Teams from Eagleville, Huntland, Cascade, Fayetteville, and Cornersville will gather in Lynchburg this week for TSSAA District 8A Tournament action. At the end of the regular season, the district standings were: #1 Moore County 9-1, #2 Eagleville 7-3, #3 Fayetteville 6-4, #4 Huntland 5-5, #5 Cascade 3-7, and #6 Cornersville 0-10.
The tournament kicks off today and the first game will feature #5 Cascade at #4 Huntland. In the second game, the #6 Cornersville Bulldogs will play at #3 Fayetteville. As the number one and number two seeds, Moore County and Eagleville will get a bye in the first round.
Moore County will play the winner of the Huntland versus Cascade game on Friday in Lynchburg at 5 p.m. Eagleville will play the winner of the Fayetteville versus Cornersville game on Friday in Eagleville. Beginning on Saturday, May 8 all games will be played at Moore County High School.
The tournament is a double elimination event
Parking for the tournament will work differently than regular season games. A gate will still be located near the softball field but fan parking will be at the round lot in front of the high school, near the football field, and near the back entrance to the high school. Bus parking will be behind the practice facility and the football practice field will be used as a warm up field.
Entry gates will be located near the front and behind the softball field. Click here to see an event map. Tickets will be $5 and available at the gate. •
