LYNCHBURG, Tenn. — The Moore County Raiderette might just be the right team, peaking at the right time. On Tuesday, they put together a fierce, team effort, complete game that left the visiting Eagleville Eagles stunned in the first half with zero first period points. Moore County eventually won the game by a 21-point margin.
The win advanced the Raiderettes to a 14-8 regular season record and a 2-1 District 9A record. The loss drops Eagleville to 14-6 and 2-1 in district play. The two teams are now tied for second place in the District 9A standings behind Huntland who remains perfect in district play with wins over Cornersville, Moore County, and Fayetteville.
Raiderette defense shuts out Eagleville in first period
The fierce but composed Moore County defense allowed zero – yes, you read that right – zero first period points. The Raiderettes got on the board first with a shot underneath from Maecy Fletcher and then went on a 20 point run that lasted until the six minute mark of the second period. Katy Fletcher, Paisley Logan, Maecy Fletcher, Ellie Graham, and Madison Dingler combined for the Raiderettes 18 first period points.
Ellie Graham and Maecy Fletcher got things started in the second period when Graham fed Fletcher the ball underneath for two points. On the ensuing Eagleville possession, refs called Katy Fletcher for a foul sending an Eagle to the line. She hit one of her two shots for the first Eagleville points of the game.
Moore County’s Anna Harder answered with a basket, then on the Eagles possession, Maecy Fletcher stole the ball and passed to Ellie Graham who went in untouched for the layup to make the score 24-1. A possession later, the Eagles got their first basket of the game around the four minute mark of the second period. Moore County forced turnovers and stole passes to limit the Eagles to just 10 second period points while Maecy Fletcher, Ellie Graham, and Anna Harder mounted 10 more Raiderette points. Moore County went into the locker room leading, 36-10.
Two players fouls out; Eagle’s head coach get a technical in second half
Eagleville came into the second half visibly frustrated and it began to show in the foul count. Two Eagleville players fouled out in the second half and the Eagleville head coach received a technical foul in the fourth quarter. Nine of Moore County’s 13 fourth period points came from the line.
Ellie Graham led for Moore County with 17 points. Madison Dingler followed with nine points. Paisley Logan, Katy Fletcher, and Anna Harder scored seven points each. Maecy Fletcher added six more. Both Makenzie Goodwin and Bella Tucker came off the bench and swished three points each and Audrey Harder added two points.
The Raiderettes shot 26 points from the field and added another 15 from the perimeter. They were 20 of 22 (90 percent) from the free throw line.
Moore County will travel to Cornersville (8-11, 0-3) on Friday for another district match up. Tip off takes place at 6 p.m. and the boys game will follow immediately after. •
