LYNCHBURG – If you are a local Vol for Life whose blood runs deep orange, you won’t want to miss the opportunity to rub shoulders with some past and current players at the Legends on the Hill event slated for Friday, May 31.
It’s a collaboration between the Legends of Tennessee organization and Jack Daniel’s Distillery in advance of the Legend of Tennessee Football Camp to be held in Lynchburg on June 1. The first annual event is the result of years of work behind the scenes between Colt Russell and his mother, Marsha Hale.
It all started with a chance meeting between Russell and former Vol Jabari Davis at Vanderbilt football game. It was a case of being in the right place at the right time and Russell and Davis quickly began a friendship. The friendship led to conversations about the Legend of Tennessee youth football camp founded by Davis and former UT Vol Chris Treece.
Davis founded the nonprofit to use youth sports to teach the fundamentals of life to Tennessee’s youth and Treece quickly came on board. Each spring they crisscross across from Jackson to Bristol for an intensive one-day camp for players of all ages.
Because of the chance meeting between Russell and Davis, the Legends of Tennessee Football Camp plans it’s first-ever event in Lynchburg for Saturday, June 1 with another first, a Legends on the Hill Dinner at Jack Daniel’s Barbecue Hill on the day before, May 31.
It’s a fundraising event for the Legends of Tennessee organization, which seeks to encourage youth football players to work hard, set goals, and dream big. In addition to their football camps, the organization plans educational programs, youth mental health summits, and leadership training in the community they serve.
Some of the Vols that plan to be in town for the event include Davis, Treece, as well as former linebacker Eric Westmoreland, former running back, Derrick Tinsley, former defensive back and Tennessee Titan Corey Larkins, former defensive tackle Billy Ratliff, former defensive end Marlon Walls, and former defensive tackle and Green Bay Packers Superbowl Champ Justin Harrell.
Tickets for the event will be $100 and include a catered meal, live music, three drink tickets for a little local product, plus a private cave tour. You’ll also be able to rub shoulders for some former and current Vol players. If you know a Big Orange fan, this is a great event. Tickets are selling fast and are limited to just 200 spots.
