Deal withdraws from mayor’s race

LYNCHBURG, Tenn. — Jason Deal has decided now is not the time. He issued a public statement on Friday afternoon expressing his intention to withdraw from the race for Moore County Mayor. This leaves two remaining candidates: incumbent Sloan Stewart and Keith Moses.

In a open letter to Moore County residents published on his person social media, Deal stated he arrived at the decision after discussing the issue with family, friends, and community members.

“It wasn’t an easy call, but after talking it through with the people who know me best and hearing from so many of you, I know in my heart it’s the right thing to do right now,” he said.

Just because he won’t be mayor doesn’t mean he won’t be active in the community continuing his work at the Metro Moore County EMA Director.

“In the meantime, I plan to use this season to better myself so I can serve this community even more effectively down the road,” Deal said. “I’m working toward completing my Master’s in Public Administration this fall, and I’m also committed to finishing the Certified County Finance Officer course offered through CTAS. I truly believe that investing in my education now will make me a stronger and more well-rounded public servant for Moore County in the future.”

His his statement, Deal stressed his love of Moore County and his commitment to serving its citizens.

“I want everyone to know that my passion for serving this community hasn’t changed one bit. I’ll keep doing what I love — serving the citizens of Moore County in public safety — and I genuinely look forward to what the future holds.”

Deal ended his withdrawal statement on a high note, reminding locals of the strength of and the power in community.

“To everyone who reached out with kind words and encouragement — thank you from the bottom of my heart. You have no idea how much that meant to me. and it is truly a blessing to live and serve here,” he continued. “Moore County is full of good people, I’m grateful for each and every one of you. Moore County is a great place, and I’m proud to be a part of this community.”

The voter registration deadline for the upcoming election is Tuesday, July 7 and early voting will begin on Friday, July 17 and extend through Saturday, August 1. Absentee ballots must be requested by Monday, July 27.•
