LOCAL OBITUARY | Joyce Davenport Bobo, a beloved mother, grandmother, and respected member of the Lynchburg and Tullahoma communities, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026, at the age of 92 in Tullahoma, Tennessee.
Joyce was born on May 11, 1934, in Nashville, Tennessee, to Hardy and Nicey Davenport. She spent her early years between Shelbyville, Tennessee, and Detroit, Michigan. Her family eventually moved back to Tennessee, where she met the love of her life. She was working curbside at her brother’s restaurant, The Merry Go Round, in Shelbyville, when she met a handsome young man from Lynchburg, Robert Holt Bobo, who was driving a nice car. They were married in November 1951 and shared 60 wonderful years together before Robert passed away on their 60th wedding anniversary.
Joyce was a beloved figure in Lynchburg, where she worked for over 40 years at Bobo’s Grocery, the “Soda Shop,” and the Lynchburg Hardware and General Store. She loved meeting new people from all over the world. An excellent cook, she loved nothing more than feeding her family and friends her famous sourdough bread and baking birthday cakes for countless family celebrations. Her family cherishes the memories of coming to “Granny’s house” and considers themselves fortunate to have had such a wonderful, loving, and Godly mother and grandmother. She has attended either Lynchburg or Tullahoma First United Methodist Church since 1951.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Hardy and Nicey Davenport; her husband, Robert Holt Bobo; her son, Russell Keith (Neil) Bobo (who passed away in 2006); her daughter-in-law Sharon Bobo, and thirteen siblings, making her the last surviving member of the original Davenport clan of 14 children.
She is survived by her children: Daniel (Linda) Bobo, Jan (Gary) Brewer, and Shanna (Winston) Brooks. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Patrick (Kellie) Bobo, Lauren (Jason) Gillespie, Kyle (Marilu) Brewer, Matt (Kacy) Brewer, Ben (Kassidy) Brewer, Anna Brooks, and Robert Brooks, as well as 15 great-grandchildren.
She will be missed beyond measure, and her family will cherish their memories of her forever.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 30 at 4 p.m. at Lynchburg Funeral Home in Lynchburg, Tennessee. Burial will follow at Lynchburg Cemetery. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home on Saturday from 2 p.m. until the time of service.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the wonderful staff at Morning Pointe for all of the love and care they provided for Joyce. •
