Duck River Electric Corporation issued a scam warning on Tuesday afternoon for local electric customers.
According to their PSA, scammers are calling Duck River Electric-served business and residential members, threatening to disconnect power unless a bill is paid immediately. These calls are NOT from Duck River Electric.
The local utility advised that if you receive a call like this, hang up immediately. Even if the call sounds legitimate, be cautious.
DREMC does not use toll free 1-888 or 1-800 numbers, which the scammers sometimes use. DREMC reminds customers, that even if someone asks you to contact DREMC using a 931 area code, you should check with DREMC directly regarding the status of your account by calling one of the numbers for the cooperative listed at dremc.com. You can reach the Lynchburg office by calling 931-759-7344.
If you need to verify the status of your DREMC account, log in to your account online through dremc.com, use the mobile app or call Duck River Electric directly at any of the numbers on their website. •
