Native Harlan Eady dies at 79

LOCAL OBITUARY | William Harlan Eady, age 79, of Lynchburg passed away on Friday, April 10, 2026 at his residence. He was born on May 7, 1946 in Lynchburg to the late Elzie “Bus” Eady and Rebecca Henderson Eady. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Elzie Eady.

He attended Highview School for his middle school education in Lynchburg and graduated as Valedictorian. He went on to attend West End High School in Fayetteville. Following high school, he proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force.

Harlan had a deep love for football, especially cheering on Alabama and the Tennessee Titans. He enjoyed hunting, gamecocks and the simple pleasure of buying and scratching lottery tickets. He dedicated 43 years of service to the Jack Daniel’s Distillery before retiring. Those who knew him will fondly remember his favorite saying, “10-4.”

He is survived by his children: Desiree Eady (Joel) Vannatta, Gary (Maryam) Eady, Kristian Eady, and Savannah Eady; his beloved grandchildren, Jalen, Marcus, Amaya, Alexa, and Garrison; brothers, Billy W. Eady, Howard (Kelly) Eady, and Kurt (Meshun) Eady; sisters, Helen Eady Whitworth, Beverly Harper, Teresa (David) Hartful, and Shirley Eady; special family support, Brenda Wells; his devoted cousin, Bobby “Chicken George” Henderson; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.

Known for being a late riser, services will be held later in the day in keeping with his nature. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 14 from 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. at J.A. Welton & Son Funeral Home located at 715 South Jackson Street in Tullahoma with a graveside service to follow at 5 p.m. at Highview Cemetery in Lynchburg. •
