LOCAL NEWS — It’s was a tractor trailer versus passenger truck situation on Tuesday afternoon in a head on collision on the Flat Creek Highway near the Moore County, Bedford County line. The accident kept traffic shut down on Highway 82 going towards Shelbyville for much of Tuesday afternoon.
Around 4:30 p.m., a 2008 Ford F-150 travelling north on US Highway 82 collided head on with a 2008 Western Star Tractor Trailer that was traveling north on US Highway 82, according to a preliminary report provided by the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP). The Ford F-150 driven by Donnie Sullivan, age 26, of Murfreesboro passed a vehicle on the double yellow lines and the tractor trailer driven by Jamie Lee Dougherty, age 46, of East Meredith, New York was unable to avoid the truck, according to the report. The two vehicles collided and then crashed into the ditch on the right side of the road, where they came to rest.
Sullivan was transported via air ambulance to an area level one trauma center and is in stable condition and the driver and the passenger of the tractor trailer did not sustain injuries, according to local public safety officials. THP charged Sullivan with improper passing, due care, driving on a revoked license, reckless driving, and not wearing a seat beat. There were no charges or pending investigations in regards to Dougherty.
Metro Moore County Sheriff’s Department, Metro EMS, Metro Moore Volunteer Fire Department, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol all responded to the scene. •
