Lynchburg Tunnel to Towers 5K happens on Saturday

LYNCHBURG — Local should be on alert for runners and walkers in and around the Lynchburg Square on Saturday as the annual Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk happens. With highs in the low 70s and lows in the mid-fifties that morning, it should be perfect race weather.

Launched in 2021 by Metro Moore County Volunteer Fire Department and Jack Daniel’s Fire Brigade, the race is now managed by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, who serve as the primary non-profit for the local fundraiser.

For over 20 years, Tunnel to Towers has honored the legacy of fallen 9/11 FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller by supporting the heroes who continue to risk life and limb in the line of duty. To date, the foundation has provided over 450 mortgage-free homes to catastrophically injured veterans and first responders, Gold Star families, and fallen first responder families. The Lynchburg Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk will celebrate the local first responders – firefighters, police, EMTs and paramedics – as well as the veterans and active-duty service members who work to keep our country and community safe. The race is one of 80 local events held across the country each year in support of Tunnel to Towers.
